AAC Draft Number 1

Here's an AAC draft that I participated a while ago in MTGO

  Pack 1 pick 1:

  My Pick:

I could have gone with the branching bolt as it can answer 2 problems, and generate card advantage if used properly, but I'll choose the Cerodon because a threat is better than an answer.
  Pack 1 pick 2:

  My Pick:

This pack is interesting, the naya charm, naya battlemage, and oblivion ring are all good cards. I'll choose the Oring as I'm not yet ready to play three colors. Choosing the Oring leaves me room for more options.
  Pack 1 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Bant charm is tempting, so is the strix. I can take either one of them and make myself a 5 color control deck.(an archetype that is strong but slow) I'll choose the white removal spell to not strain my manabase
  Pack 1 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Options are pretty much still open for me at this point. Taking the Cat means I'll be playing Naya most likely.
  Pack 1 pick 5:

  My Pick:

There's my 1st fixer. I can now cycle my resounding silence as well.
  Pack 1 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 7:

  My Pick:

There's my 3rd removal spell!
  Pack 1 pick 8:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 9:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 10:

  My Pick:

Cool! a Mosstodon on Pick 10! I'm definitely playing Naya now.
  Pack 1 pick 11:

  My Pick:

I'm not playing any of these cards, and since I didn't get the branching bolt, I'd have to take the kathari that I don't want to face.
  Pack 1 pick 12:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 1:

  My Pick:

Great! My 2nd bomb is on color!
  Pack 2 pick 2:

  My Pick:

This pick is hard. The pinger, the bolt, the battlemage or the assault? I think I can go either way. But I have to pick a pinger soon if I pass the assault.
  Pack 2 pick 3:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 4:

  My Pick:

You've got to be kidding?
  Pack 2 pick 5:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 7:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 8:

  My Pick:

I'm a little short on 2 drops.
  Pack 2 pick 9:

  My Pick:

There's my answer to the Assault!
  Pack 2 pick 10:

  My Pick:

A 2 drop, and works well with the rockslide elemental.
  Pack 2 pick 11:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 12:

  My Pick:

Can be good with my dragon.
  Pack 2 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 1:

  My Pick:

Leotau is good but my base colors are RW. The double green is prohibitive. Temper is nice, but I don't have any black permanents to make it great. So I go for the 2 drop to smoothen my curve.
  Pack 3 pick 2:

  My Pick:

The Plowbeast is nice, but I'll take the fallout that I can use against Jund tokens, Bant, and the Assault that I passed.
  Pack 3 pick 3:

  My Pick:

I'm not sure if I can play him, the rioters is the correct pick here, I think.
  Pack 3 pick 4:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 5:

  My Pick:

To smoothen my curve.
  Pack 3 pick 6:

  My Pick:

Fracture is good against esper, but since green is not my main color, I’ll get the red counterpart, and it can probably make the main deck since I can cycle it and I'm short on 2 drops.
  Pack 3 pick 7:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 8:

  My Pick:

Not bad for an 8th pick!
  Pack 3 pick 9:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 11:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 12:

I have just the right amount of playables. I'm not playing the Paleoloth. And I considered the Fallout in my Sideboard. I hope this works.

As of publishing of this blog, the game replays in MTGO is currently down. I'll post my games in this draft as soon as the game replays function is up.

I went 2-1 losing in the finals against a cruel ultimatum when I and my opponent were both at 5 life with me having a Bull Cerodon that has been beating for 10 already. Too bad I never drew into my Dragon in any of my games...

  1. Pack 1, pick 3: What's your experience in choosing Jungle Weaver instead? I've seen some drafters do a first pick with this monstrous spider with Reach.

By the way, add more comments per important pick. The analysis is one of the most important reads

    More power!

  2. I normally don't pick the fat cyclers all too early since they tend to go around even up to the 12th pick. Unless i'm playing 5color control and I high-picked a necrogenesis. That is a cool combination btw. :)

    Keep the comments coming.
