Shard Block 8-4 MTGO Booster Draft # 3

I recently have been playing 8-4 pods exclusively in MTGO since the Philippine Nationals is getting nearer(July 25-26).I need all the practice I can get for my 1st ever appearance in Nationals. I also have been losing a lot of my paper magic drafts in JT's shop (www.whatwouldjtdo.blogspot.com) and thus decided to re-examine the way I draft and hopefully I can snap out of it before its too late.

  Pack 1 pick 1:

  My Pick:

A relatively unexciting 1st pack/pick. This card has become better since Alara reborn came out. I'm looking at you Turbo Blades. I hope some other goodies come along.
  Pack 1 pick 2:

  My Pick:

A common is missing... the guy feeding me must've picked either an Oblivion Ring, or a Branching Bolt (since those 2 cards are part of the print run). OR a foil card. I choose Bull Cerodon as I've won a lot of games with it, and it is red (which is the same color as my 1st pick. Executioner's capsule and Sanctum Gargoyle are fine picks too IMO. Let's see how things go.
  Pack 1 pick 3:

  My Pick:

So far, Grixis, Jund, and Naya seem open... All of those shards has Red. So I'll take the Vithian Stinger here. I've passed 2 Executioner's Capsules already, I hope that is a good signal enough to my neighbor that I'm playing a shard that does NOT have black.
  Pack 1 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Red is indeed open. I'll get the Bloodpyre Elemental to stay on color with all of my picks, and branch out later on what will be my secondary color and my splash.
  Pack 1 pick 5:

  My Pick:

I have this feeling that the one passing to me wants me on Grixis or Jund. Bone Splinter, Alghae Gharial, Rockslide Elemental and the Tri-land are all good here. If I make a 2color deck with a very light splash, I think I can do away with the Tri-land. I already passed a couple of Capsules, might as well continue passing the splinters for good signaling. That leaves me with the Rockslide and the Alghae which are both good with my Vithian Stinger. I'll choose the Gharial because it is untouchable. And can reasonably grow rather big unmolested compared to the 1st-Striker.
  Pack 1 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 7:

  My Pick:

It looks like I'm playing Naya.
  Pack 1 pick 8:

  My Pick:

RG with a white splash maybe?
  Pack 1 pick 9:

  My Pick:

To keep my options open.
  Pack 1 pick 10:

  My Pick:

There is nothing I will be playing here, so I'll hate on the Fiend as it is a monster if esper curves out.
  Pack 1 pick 11:

  My Pick:

Not bad at all.

  Pack 1 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 1:

  My Pick:

Wow what an awful pack for me... I can't get the Rhox Meditant as I lack green permanents to activate it.. Lets go with the Gray Ogre..
  Pack 2 pick 2:

  My Pick:

I would've have picked the Beacon Behemoth but something tells me to stick with red 1st.
  Pack 2 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Leotau, Dark Temper, or the Squire? Dark temper is best if I'm playing black, which I'm not, so that one is out. Leotau is double green and may hamper my mana development for my high CC spells. So the Squire must be the correct pick here.
  Pack 2 pick 4:

  My Pick:

I thought about the Plowbeasts for a moment, but its too damn expensive. A 3cc 2/3 flier that will fit my curve ain't half bad I suppose.
  Pack 2 pick 5:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 6:

  My Pick:

What is this card still doing here?
  Pack 2 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Might be the wrong pick, I think it should've been the Trailblazer. What are your thoughts?
  Pack 2 pick 8:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 9:

  My Pick:

Might make the cut if I'm short on playables. Besides, I've an exalted sub-theme.
  Pack 2 pick 10:

  My Pick:

Hate draft this huge blocker.
  Pack 2 pick 11:

  My Pick:

And this Isamaru
  Pack 2 pick 12:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 1:

  My Pick:

Quite expensive, but he seems like the best card here for me.
  Pack 3 pick 2:

  My Pick:

Wrong pick, I didn't realize there was a Griffin.
  Pack 3 pick 3:

  My Pick:

I got into an argument with Paolo Go with this pick, he's for the blade. But I chose the Rhox Brute primarily because the brute will always be a 4cc 4/4 while the blade is a 2cc critter which may sometimes be a 3/2 or just a measly 2/1. Besides, I don;t have borderposts yet to get full effect from the blade. What do you think?
  Pack 3 pick 4:

  My Pick:

there's a fixer. It looks like I'll be playing with a lot of Mountains, which will be supported with 1 triland, 1 bant panorama, and this borderpost for my other 2 colors.
  Pack 3 pick 5:

  My Pick:

I almost needlessly hatedrafted the Hulk if I had not realized that I can at least cycle this card. So I count him as a white spell.
  Pack 3 pick 6:

  My Pick:

I have never played this card before. I've seen Nick Ortega use this once and he was loudly proclaiming that it is a bad card that just skipped him his drawstep. I might experiment on this for this draft since I think I can push my manabase a little and splash an Island. We'll see how it goes.
  Pack 3 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Don't you think its a little too early to not have anything for a 7th pick???!
  Pack 3 pick 8:

  My Pick:

What in the world is Soul Manipulation doing here??? Reality check, did I really join an 8-4 queue? or I mis-clicked and joined a 4-3-2-2?
  Pack 3 pick 9:

  My Pick:

Just the last thing that I needed to make sure my deck runs smoothly.
  Pack 3 pick 10:

  My Pick:

Hate draft.. or I can go really greedy and play this monster.
  Pack 3 pick 11:

  My Pick:

It looks like I can splash the blue after all.
  Pack 3 pick 12:

Here is the list that I played. Click on the image to enlarge.
I felt a little adventurous and went ahead and played the Lorescale Coatl, and the Sages of the Anima since I have a Fiery Fall and a Bant Panorama that can look for the lone Island, and I have a Seaside Citadel. My RGW manabase looks solid thanks to the panorama, citadel and 3 borderposts.

Notes: The Sages of the Anima was insane, I got a little lucky and cascaded it from an Enlisted Wurm, then next turn, the Sages gave me a Bull Cerodon and a Squire. Talk about Card Advantage.
An opponent was able to resolve a Cruel Ultimatum against me, but I was far ahead in terms of board position that the Cruel did not matter.
I won the draft and got 8 packs for it.
How would you have drafted the deck? Do you think I pushed the manabase a little too far?
Comments will be highly appreciated.
